Advice For New Moms When Dealing With Pushy In-laws

Being a new mom is an entirely different experience. It takes time to adjust to new sleep patterns, endless crying, and understanding the little one, and amidst all that imagine dealing with pushy in-laws.

*Sigh*

Well, you don’t need to worry anymore, as today I’ll share some useful tips that will help you deal with your pushy in-laws when you have a baby.

01. Set boundaries

Living in a joint family can be challenging, so initially, it is necessary to set boundaries and routines as per your newborn’s sleeping and feeding schedule. As a mother, you must follow it strictly, especially around your in-laws so that they get the hang of it from the start.

02. Take a deep breath

As cliché as it sounds, it is important to relax. As exciting as the start of motherhood seems, it is tiring as well, so you must try to stay calm and focus on the baby rather than worrying about your in-laws and everything else.

03. Let your in-laws spend time with the baby

As a new mother, possessiveness towards your little one comes naturally, but it is important to let your in-laws interact and spend time with the newborn. Moreover, it will also give you your ‘me’ time!

04. Focus on the positive side

At times, having pushy in-laws means that there are a lot of people in the house who can take care of your baby. So, do not worry. Just hand over the baby to someone you trust, of course, and in the meantime, you can take a good nap or go to the salon for that long-awaited body massage or pedicure!

05. Talk to your partner

It is important to communicate or in other words, vent whatever is going on in your head with your husband, especially if there is a lot of interference from your in-laws.

06. Listen and ignore

At times, in-Laws love to push their ideas, especially their parenting advice, but as the saying goes, “log toh kahenge – logo ka kaam hai kehna…” In such scenarios, the best you should do is IGNORE, and just go with the flow on this new journey of motherhood.

07. Enjoy this time

Time flies. As annoying and interfering as your in-laws might indeed be, you must enjoy every second with your baby.

08. Be polite and kind

Motherhood can change you, so try not to lose your cool by being rude. Try to stay polite by discussing anything related to the little one, especially with your mother-in-law and father-in-law, as they too would be excited about having a little one in the house.

09. Keep your in-laws busy

Well, it is a good way to avoid all the pushy in-laws’ drama. You can always keep the “I-need-these-things-for-the-baby” list and hand it over to them ‘wink’.

10. Go to your Mom’s

Last but not least, a small break hurts no one and this is the best way to take some time off and spend time at your mom’s and enjoy all that extra pampering!

I hope these tips will help many new moms. I’d like to hear from you, so leave a comment and let me know how you deal with your pushy in-laws after having a baby.
